Yue Kee [open]Overall Rating:
Okay, so you know that thing where things become so heralded for being underrated that they become overrated? Yue Kee's has it. While there is no doubting the quality and quantity of the food, there is also no doubt that food takes forever to get to you (even if you call ahead) and the owners are always grouchy. Oh, and did we mention that you can get the same thing a couple blocks away for a dollar cheaper on average? But since everyone from the DP to Wharton professors have called this place great - you can carry on waiting in line. -MY

Typical Chinese Sat, 05 Apr 2008

The first time I ordered from Yue Kee, I waited 30 minutes and left never having picked up my food. I went back to try it today and it was actually faster than KoJa. The Eggplant & Tofu I had was typical of most Americanized-Chinese food, so if there is no line I would recommend it. -AG

The food tasted good, no problems there. The problem is the time it takes for the food to be made. I was first in line, and it took 10 minutes to get my food. People that ordered on the phone all got their food before me so maybe I should have done that. The prices are pretty good, too. -Abhi
Low Prices Thu, 31 Jan 2008

Moderate quality Chinese food at low prices. The highlight of this truck is definitely its prices. Service is mediocre at best--so don't expect a friendly greeting or a "have a good day". When ordering during peak lunch/dinner hours (noon/6pm), it helps to call ahead of time so your food is ready when you get there. -MS

Yes: Call ahead.
Yes: Add some time onto what she says (usually add 10-15 minutes to whatever she says). It's *not* double the time like someone else said. If she tells you 20 minutes and you go 40 minutes later you will get there substantially after it was ready and end up with soggier rice.
Yes: get the orange chicken, the spicy triple delight etc.
Yes: food is made to order, very hot/fresh when you pick it up; it's not just sitting in a warming tub for hours like the other asian carts.
Yes: Open late, and at strange hours. Get food to order ahead when you get out of a late class or are craving food cart nutrition on a Saturday.
No: the cart owners do not perform fellatio on you, but i wouldn't say they are mean, more business-like.
No: do not try to get it if you're in a rush, e.g. on your way to class. But really, who wants a huge thing of chinese food on your way to class?

Even though almost all of the food trucks increased their prices by 25 cents as of this year (Yue Kee is no exception), this place is still really good. The reason that they're slow is because they cook it for you in their giant wok. This is why it tastes better than the other Chinese food carts. If you've ever watched them, they scrub the wok clean every time in between dishes. I don't understand the editors' negative review of this food truck. Call ahead if you want to avoid a line. If the lady says 5 minutes, go there after 10. If she says 10 minutes, go there after 20. If she says 15 minutes, go there after 30. And so forth. Just double everything. If she ever says 25 minutes, go there about an hour later. The prices are good, and the amount of food that you get is awesome. My personal favorite is beef chow fun. They might come off as unfriendly, and I can certainly understand why. They've been in that same location for over 20 years now. If you speak mandarin or cantonese, she does seem a bit friendlier. Just watch out for when her son is handing the food out -- he never remembers your fortune cookie. -Ben Franklin

I definitely think this is one of the best Chinese food carts on campus. They're definitely slow as hell, but it's right next to Huntsman and their food is awesome. Definitely worth the wait. -Ben Franklin
